Master Budget Variance Analysis

You know that feeling when actual numbers don't match your forecast? We've been there. This program teaches practical approaches to understanding where budgets drift and why it happens.

Starting September 2025, we're running a six-month program focused on real scenarios. No theoretical fluff—just what actually works when you're staring at spreadsheets at 3pm on a Tuesday.

What You'll Actually Learn

Six modules spread over six months. Each one builds on the last, but you can take breaks between if work gets hectic.

1

Variance Fundamentals

Start with the basics. Why budgets miss targets, how to spot patterns early, and what matters versus what's just noise in the data.

2

Data Collection Methods

You can't analyze what you haven't captured properly. We look at gathering accurate information without drowning your team in admin work.

3

Analysis Techniques

The actual process of breaking down variances. We cover both simple approaches and more complex scenarios when you need them.

4

Reporting Frameworks

How to present findings so people actually understand them. Because brilliant analysis means nothing if nobody reads your reports.

5

Corrective Actions

Moving from "we found the problem" to "here's what we can do about it." This module focuses on practical next steps.

6

Forecasting Adjustments

Using variance insights to improve future budgets. Learning from what went wrong (or right) this time around.

Who's Teaching This

Two instructors who've spent years doing variance analysis in actual businesses. They've made their share of mistakes and learned from them—which is exactly what they'll share with you.

Elliot Brennan - Senior Financial Analyst
Lead Instructor

Elliot Brennan

Spent twelve years analyzing budgets for mid-sized manufacturers. Now he teaches others how to spot the variances that actually matter instead of chasing every small difference.

Marcus Whitfield - Budget Analysis Specialist
Technical Instructor

Marcus Whitfield

Worked in retail finance for eight years before moving into education. He focuses on practical reporting methods that finance teams can actually use daily.

Before You Enroll

A few things worth knowing if you're considering this program. We want you to have realistic expectations going in.

Time Commitment Reality

Plan for about 4-5 hours weekly. That includes:

  • Two hours of live instruction every fortnight
  • Around two hours working through practice exercises
  • Another hour or so reviewing materials and examples

Some weeks will be lighter, others heavier—especially when you're working on the capstone project in months five and six. If your schedule is already packed, maybe wait for a quieter period before enrolling.

Career Outcomes

We can't promise promotions or salary bumps. What we can offer is skill development that may help you handle budget responsibilities more effectively.

Support Available

Instructors answer questions within 48 hours via email. We also run monthly Q&A sessions where you can ask about specific challenges you're facing.
